Terms of sale and license
Draft, pending legal review. These terms are a plain-language draft and are not yet in force. The final version will be published here before WebFence goes on sale.
These terms are between you and Yinhuan Yuan ("we"), the developer of WebFence. Our reseller, which acts as the merchant of record, handles payment, invoicing and tax; its own terms of sale also apply to the purchase itself.
1. The trial
You may use WebFence free for 14 days from the moment you finish setup, with every feature. After the trial, protection keeps running as configured, and adding to the configuration needs a license key.
2. Your license
- A license lets you install and use WebFence on one Mac per seat purchased. You may move it to a different Mac you own, as long as it is used on only one Mac at a time.
- The license is perpetual and covers every 1.x version, including all 1.x updates. A future major version (2.0) may be sold separately; your 1.x license keeps working with 1.x.
- You may not share, resell or publish your license key, or circumvent the license check.
- WebFence is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights in the software except the ones these terms give you. Third-party components are covered by their own licenses (see acknowledgements).
3. Price and payment
The price is shown on the pricing page at the time you buy (currently US$39 per Mac, one time). The reseller may show it in your currency and adds applicable taxes. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
4. Refunds
Because the 14-day trial lets you try everything before paying, purchases are final once made, except for duplicate purchases and where the consumer law of your country gives you a right to a refund or withdrawal. Nothing in these terms limits those rights. See the refund policy.
5. What WebFence does and does not do
WebFence restricts the Standard macOS accounts you choose to the websites you allow. No filter stops every bypass. WebFence does not protect against anyone with an administrator password, other devices, other accounts on the same Mac, some technically skilled methods, and a macOS behaviour that lets a Standard user switch the filter off until an administrator next unlocks WebFence. These are described on the limitations page, which forms part of the description of the product. WebFence is a tool to help a parent; it does not replace supervision.
6. Warranty
We will make reasonable efforts to fix defects and to keep WebFence working on supported macOS versions. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, WebFence is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Statutory rights you have as a consumer are not affected.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for content a protected user reaches through a limitation described on the limitations page, and our total liability for any claim related to WebFence is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
8. Updates and changes
Updates are offered through the app and installed only with an administrator's approval. We may update these terms for future purchases; the terms in force when you bought apply to your purchase.
